BIO Arthur was a partner in the Sydney law firm then known as Dawson Waldron until 1978 when he was called to the NSW Bar. He was appointed Queens Counsel in 1985, a judge of the Federal Court of Australia in 1997 and a NSW Judge of Appeal 1n 2013. While at the Bar he practised in commercial law in the Supreme Courts of NSW, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia at both trial and appeal level and appeared often in the High Court of Australia. While a judge of the Supreme Court of NSW, he was the Presiding Member of the NSW Legal Profession Admission Board, Chair of the Admissions Committee of the Legal Services Council and Chair of the Law Admissions Consultative Committee. After reaching compulsory judicial retiring age in NSW, he was appointed as the Chair of the NSW Electoral Commission. He has taught Roman law at Sydne University since 1978.
