Biography
Chief Justice Lucy McCallum graduated with a BA/LLB from UNSW in 1989. Her Honour practised briefly in commercial litigation before taking up a position as a prosecutor in Canberra and then in Brisbane. She was called to the Bar in Sydney in 1991 and took silk in 2005.
In 2008, her Honour was appointed to the Supreme Court of NSW as a judge in the Common Law Division. She was elevated to the NSW Court of Appeal in 2019.
In March 2022, her Honour was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory. At her swearing-in, her Honour confirmed her commitment to supporting steps to address the tragedy of over-representation of indigenous people in custody. Chief Justice McCallum's personal interests include reading, horse-riding and rock-climbing.
